What Makes This Fish Special?
The Green Chromis is prized for its beautiful metallic coloration and active, open-water swimming behavior. Depending on aquarium lighting and viewing angle, its body can shift between shades of turquoise, blue, and green.
Unlike many more territorial damselfish, Green Chromis are generally peaceful and integrate well into community reef aquariums.
When kept in groups, they can create an impressive display as they swim together throughout the water column, although individuals may establish a social hierarchy over time.
Behavior & Husbandry
Green Chromis are active swimmers that spend much of their day in the open water column, often retreating into branching rockwork or coral structures when startled or at night.
They are generally peaceful toward other species, although groups can develop a social hierarchy that may result in aggression between individuals.
Providing ample swimming room, hiding places, and regular feeding helps encourage natural behavior and reduce competition.
