ABOUT CLOVE POLYP CORAL

Clove Polyps are a vibrant, fast-growing soft coral that resemble both Xenia and Pipe Organ corals. Their feathery polyps often feature orange or green highlights, adding a pop of color. Each polyp extends from a soft, tube-like base, creating a flowing, textured look in the reef.

Lighting Requirements for Clove Polyp Coral

Clove polyps thrive under moderate lighting and can adapt to a variety of light conditions. They do best in areas where they receive indirect light, but they can tolerate higher light levels with proper acclimation.

• Ideal PAR Range:
  50–150 PAR
  
  

• 50–100 PAR: Works well in shaded areas or for acclimating.
  
  

• 100–150 PAR: Ideal for healthy growth and vibrant color, but monitor for stress at higher PAR levels.
  
  

• Spectrum:
  
  

• A blue-dominant spectrum (400–470nm) helps enhance the natural fluorescence and color of the polyps.
  
  

• A balanced full-spectrum light with a slight emphasis on blue is also effective.
  
  

• Lighting Type:
  
  

• Works well under LEDs, T5HO, or metal halide lighting, as long as the intensity is in the proper PAR range.
  
  

• Placement Tips:
  
  

• Place them in the middle to lower sections of the tank, away from intense direct light.
  
  

• Keep an eye on their extension—if the polyps retract, they may need a bit less light.

Water Flow Requirements for Clove Polyp Coral

Clove polyps prefer moderate to gentle, indirect water flow. They thrive in areas with turbulent, yet not overpowering current that allows their polyps to sway and extend fully without being blasted.

• Moderate to low flow is ideal.
  
  

• Too strong of a flow can cause them to retract, while too little can lead to poor extension and hinder nutrient exchange.
  
  

• Why It Matters:
  Proper flow helps with nutrient delivery, gas exchange, and keeps debris from accumulating on the polyps. Gentle movement promotes better polyp extension and overall health.
  
  

• Placement Tips:
  
  

• Position them in the middle or lower areas of the tank where water flow is not too intense.
  
  

• Avoid direct blasts from powerheads or strong wave makers.
