ABOUT DIGITATA CORAL

Digitata corals are a type of SPS coral known for their unique, branching growth pattern resembling delicate tree branches. They come in a variety of colors, including vibrant reds, oranges, and greens, making them a popular choice for reef aquariums. Digitatas are relatively hardy for SPS corals but require stable water conditions, moderate to high light, and strong water flow for optimal growth and coloration.

Lighting Requirements for Digitata Coral

Digitata corals thrive under moderate to high lighting. They need plenty of light for optimal growth and vibrant coloration, but they should be gradually acclimated to higher intensities.

  • Ideal PAR Range:
    150–300 PAR

    • 150–200 PAR: Ideal for moderate lighting, suitable for lower tank levels or areas with indirect light.

    • 200–300 PAR: Best for vibrant color and fast growth, especially in areas with direct light.

  • Spectrum:

    • A blue-dominant spectrum (420–470nm) is ideal for enhancing color and promoting healthy growth.

    • Full-spectrum lighting with a balance of blue and white light also works well.

  • Lighting Type:

    • Digitata corals perform well under LEDs, T5HO, or metal halide lighting setups, as long as the light intensity remains within the recommended PAR range.

  • Placement Tips:

    • Position them in the mid to upper sections of the tank where they can receive the appropriate light intensity.

Water Flow Requirements for Digitata Coral

Digitata corals thrive in moderate to strong, random water flow. They need sufficient movement to keep their polyps extended and free of debris while promoting healthy growth.

  • Flow Type:

    • Moderate to strong, random flow is ideal.

    • The flow should be consistent but not too direct, allowing the coral to sway gently without causing stress or damage.

  • Why It Matters:
Proper flow helps with nutrient delivery, waste removal, and ensures good polyp extension. Too much flow can stress the coral, while too little may hinder growth and encourage detritus buildup.

  • Placement Tips:

Position them in areas with moderate to high flow, such as near powerheads or in natural current zones of the tank.
