ABOUT MICROMUSSA CORAL
Micromussa corals, also known as Micro Acanthastrea, are stunning LPS corals with small, brightly colored polyps. These corals come in a variety of vivid hues, including reds, greens, and purples, often with intricate patterns and textures. Micromussa corals are relatively hardy and easy to care for, thriving in moderate light and flow conditions. Their compact size and striking appearance make them a popular choice for reef aquariums, especially in smaller tanks or areas where space is limited.
Lighting Requirements for Micromussa Coral
Micromussa corals prefer moderate lighting and can tolerate lower light levels, making them suitable for shaded or lower regions of the tank.
-
Ideal PAR Range:
50–150 PAR -
50–100 PAR: Ideal for maintaining vibrant colors and preventing bleaching.
-
100–150 PAR: Can be tolerated but should be introduced gradually to avoid light stress.
-
Spectrum:
-
A blue-dominant spectrum (420–470nm) is ideal for enhancing the coral's color and fluorescence.
-
Full-spectrum lighting is also effective, providing balanced light for growth and health.
-
Lighting Type:
-
Works well under LED, T5HO, or metal halide lights as long as the PAR is kept within the recommended range.
-
Placement Tips:
-
Best placed in lower to mid-tank areas where light intensity is more moderate.
Water Flow Requirements for Micromussa Coral
Micromussa corals prefer gentle to moderate water flow. They thrive with a steady, low-to-moderate current that allows their polyps to extend without being stressed.
-
Flow Type:
-
Gentle to moderate, indirect flow is ideal.
-
A gentle, steady current helps with nutrient uptake and polyp extension while preventing debris buildup.
-
Why It Matters:
Proper flow keeps the coral healthy, encourages polyp extension, and prevents stagnation, which can lead to bacterial growth. -
Placement Tips:
Position Micromussa in areas with low to moderate flow to avoid direct, harsh currents that could cause stress.
