What Makes This Fish Special?

Blue Green Damsel are prized for their brilliant metallic coloration and active, open-water swimming behavior. Depending on the aquarium lighting and viewing angle, their bodies can shift between shades of turquoise, blue, and green.

Unlike many more territorial damselfish, Blue Green Damsel are generally peaceful and can integrate well into community reef aquariums.

Groups can create an impressive display as they swim together throughout the water column, although individuals may establish a hierarchy over time.

Behavior & Husbandry

Blue Green Damsel are active swimmers that spend much of their day in the open water column, often retreating into branching rockwork or coral structures when startled or at night.

They are generally peaceful toward other species, although groups may develop a social hierarchy that can result in aggression between individuals.

Providing ample swimming room, hiding places, and regular feeding helps encourage natural behavior and reduce competition.
