The Eibli Tang is a distinctive and uncommon surgeonfish known for its unique coloration, active swimming behavior, and constant grazing. Often associated with naturally occurring hybridization between the Eibli Angelfish and certain surgeonfish populations, these unusual tangs can display a fascinating combination of warm brown, orange, yellow, and blue coloration with variable patterning between individuals.

What Makes This Fish Special?

The Eibli Tang is particularly sought after for its unusual coloration and variable appearance. Individual specimens can display different combinations of brown, orange, yellow, blue, and intricate markings, giving each fish its own distinctive look.

Its unusual appearance provides an alternative to the more commonly encountered surgeonfish while still offering the active swimming and grazing behavior tangs are known for.

Behavior & Husbandry

Eibli Tangs are active swimmers that require plenty of open swimming space along with established rockwork for grazing.

They spend much of the day exploring the aquarium and picking at algae and other material growing on rock surfaces.

Although generally compatible with unrelated reef fish, they may become territorial toward other tangs, particularly similarly shaped surgeonfish. Providing adequate space and introducing tangs carefully can help reduce aggression.

Feeding & Diet

Primarily herbivorous but benefits from a varied diet.
