What Makes This Fish Special?

Naoko's Fairy Wrasse is prized for its unmistakable coloration and bold patterning. Mature males develop a brilliant red body contrasted by yellow, black, and white markings, giving this species a look unlike most other fairy wrasses.

Males can become especially impressive during display behavior, intensifying their coloration and flashing their fins as they interact with other fish.

Its relatively compact adult size, striking appearance, and active personality make it a highly sought-after addition to established reef aquariums.

Behavior & Husbandry

Naoko's Fairy Wrasses are active swimmers that spend most of their day cruising through the water column and exploring rockwork.

They generally coexist well with other peaceful reef fish, although males can be somewhat assertive toward other wrasses, particularly similar species. Providing adequate swimming space and introducing wrasses carefully can help minimize territorial behavior.

Like all fairy wrasses, they do not bury in the sand but require a secure lid or screen top, as they are known jumpers.

They thrive in established aquariums with stable water quality, strong oxygenation, and ample swimming space.

Feeding & Diet

Carnivorous and generally easy to feed once conditioned.

What We Feed at Lush Corals:

  • Frozen mysis shrimp
  • Enriched brine shrimp
  • High-quality pellets

In Your Aquarium:

  • Frozen foods
