Biota Captive-Bred Aiptasia Eating Filefish

Captive-bred by Biota, the Aiptasia Eating Filefish is one of the most effective natural solutions for controlling nuisance Aiptasia anemones in reef aquariums. Combining utility, personality, and the benefits of aquaculture, these unique fish are well adapted to aquarium life and often transition readily onto prepared foods.

🟢 Quarantined (Minimum 2 Weeks) – Fully Conditioned & Eating

Quick Facts

  • Care Level: Moderate
  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Reef Compatibility: Reef Safe with caution
  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
  • Size: Ranging from approximately 2–5 inches at adult size

Behavior & Husbandry

Aiptasia Eating Filefish are slow-moving, highly intelligent fish that spend much of their day exploring rockwork and searching for food. Their unique body shape and independent personality make them one of the more interesting fish to observe in a reef aquarium.

Biota captive-bred specimens are typically better acclimated to aquarium life than wild-caught individuals and often adapt more readily to prepared foods.

While they are best known for their potential to consume nuisance Aiptasia anemones, individual results may vary. Some fish aggressively target Aiptasia, while others may show less interest once established on prepared foods.

They thrive in mature aquariums with stable water conditions and plenty of rockwork to explore.

Feeding & Diet

Omnivorous and adaptable once conditioned.

What We Feed at Lush Corals:

  • Frozen mysis shrimp
  • Enriched frozen foods
  • High-quality pellets

In Your Aquarium:

  • Frozen foods
  • Pellets
  • Small meaty foods
  • Natural grazing opportunities

Even after successfully eliminating Aiptasia, they should continue receiving a varied and nutritious diet.

Compatibility Notes

Compatible with:

  • Clownfish
  • Gobies
  • Wrasses
  • Tangs
  • Most peaceful reef fish

Use caution with:

  • Certain soft corals

What Makes This Fish Special?

The Biota Aiptasia Eating Filefish offers a unique combination of utility and sustainability. As a captive-bred fish, it is already accustomed to aquarium conditions and prepared foods, often making acclimation easier than wild-caught alternatives.

For reef keepers battling nuisance Aiptasia, this species can be one of the most effective biological control options available.

Lush Corals Quarantine & Conditioning Process

This fish has completed our full quarantine and conditioning protocol (minimum 2 weeks) prior to being made available.

During this process, each fish is:

  • Carefully observed and stabilized
  • Proactively treated and monitored
  • Conditioned onto prepared foods
  • Verified to be actively eating and thriving

This extended process significantly reduces stress and increases long-term success, ensuring you receive a fish that is healthy, stable, and truly ready for your reef.
