What Makes This Fish Special?
The Yellowtail Wrasse is highly valued for its striking appearance and useful pest-control behavior. These wrasses actively hunt small nuisance organisms throughout the aquarium and are often utilized to help control unwanted pests such as flatworms and small bristleworms.
Their vibrant coloration, active swimming behavior, and constant interaction with the environment make them a favorite among reef aquarists looking for both beauty and functionality.
Hardy and adaptable once acclimated, they are excellent choices for established reef systems.
Behavior & Husbandry
Yellowtail Wrasses are active fish that spend much of their day swimming throughout the aquarium, searching rockwork for food and exploring their surroundings.
Unlike fairy wrasses, Yellowtail Wrasses require a sand bed where they can bury themselves for sleeping, protection, and stress relief.
They thrive in established aquariums with stable water quality, open swimming areas, and plenty of rockwork to explore.
A secure lid or screen top is strongly recommended, as wrasses are known jumpers.
