ABOUT ANACROPORA CORAL
Anacropora corals are a unique and visually striking genus of SPS corals, closely related to the Acropora family. They are known for their delicate, branching structure and vibrant colors, making them an attractive addition to reef aquariums. Anacropora corals grow quickly when provided with proper care, including high light and flow conditions. Though they can be sensitive to changes in water parameters, their stunning appearance and rapid growth make them a favorite among experienced reef keepers.
Lighting Requirements for Anacropora Coral
Anacropora corals thrive under high lighting conditions similar to other SPS corals, as they require intense light to maintain vibrant colors and promote growth.
-
Ideal PAR Range:
250–400 PAR -
250–350 PAR: Ideal for most species, supporting optimal health and color.
-
350–400 PAR: Can be tolerated but should be introduced gradually to avoid light stress or bleaching.
-
Spectrum:
-
A blue-dominant spectrum (420–470nm) enhances the coral's color and encourages healthy growth.
-
Full-spectrum lighting also supports overall health, providing a balanced light source.
-
Lighting Type:
-
Works well under LED, T5HO, or metal halide lights, as long as the light intensity is high.
-
Placement Tips:
-
Best placed in higher areas of the tank, where light intensity is strongest, such as near the surface or under strong lighting setups.
Water Flow Requirements for Anacropora Coral
Anacropora corals thrive in high flow environments, similar to other SPS corals. They require strong, consistent water movement to keep their polyps extended and facilitate nutrient exchange.
-
Flow Type:
-
Strong, turbulent flow is ideal for Anacropora corals.
-
The flow should be direct and vigorous to help with the removal of waste and encourage the growth of healthy polyps.
-
Why It Matters:
Proper, high flow helps prevent detritus accumulation on the coral's surface and ensures the coral gets adequate oxygen and nutrients for growth. -
Placement Tips:
Position the coral in areas with high flow, such as near powerheads or in regions of the tank with turbulent water movement.
